Dear Reader,

Our time is soon coming to a close. After December 13th, I will be done with my Senior Seminar course. I will be moving on to other courses with other professors. Hopefully, I will hear back from the graduate schools I applied to soon. This post is somewhat late due to my busy schedule. I have been working around the clock to finish my projects and exams.

For this post, I will be giving you the overview of my final project. I want to show all of the research I have accomplished over the course of the semester and how it all connects.

Firstly, what is my topic? For those who have not been following along, I am focusing on the topic of black female beauty standards. With my project, I want to focus on how whiteness has impacted these standards. Throughout history, women of color have had to conform to white standards of beauty. There have also been many movements that have been responses to these white standards.

Secondly, I will be discussing the present day standards. With the current standards in place, many standards have been resurrected from the past. For example, the standards of the Black Panther Party have been the basis for the Black Lives Matter movement. However, these standards have been adapted for a more modern population.

Thirdly, my project will be questioning the future. My main belief is that there are two possibilities for the future. The first possibility is that white standards of beauty will continue to reign. Women of color will be forced to conform. The second possibility is that beauty standards will evolve to become accepting of all. This means that women of color will not have to conform.

I hope you have enjoyed our time together. I am deeply saddened that it is over. Thank you for going on this journey with me.

Sincerely,

Matthew Wuerthele
