I found that the clothing that the members of the Black Panther Party wore during their rallies, meetings, or other events they showed up to provided an image of unity and diversity among the black community. Many wore black outfits, such as dark jackets, or hats, boots, black sunglasses, and also wore their hair naturally. This was to make a statement and showed the world that they were ready to push for equality even through the clothing they wanted to wear.

Many gave their own personal style to clothing. Not everyone, as I could see, wore the exact same thing. Yet when looking at the members it was clear they were all in one unit.

This was all very fascinating to study. Many times leaders or speakers would remind people that even if they didn’t all “look alike,” with some black people wearing more dark colors than others or even had darker/lighter skin tones that it was alright because they were all one body. Among this talk it gave a certain presentation for the media and government to see these people as a strong force with powerful imagery of togetherness.
